Greenwood Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Posted:

GREENWOOD, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a Thursday night crash that claimed the life of a 27-year-old Greenwood man.

Troopers said the accident occurred at approximately 9:26 p.m. as Jarrett J. Alvey Jr. was operating a 2001 Yamaha R6 motorcycle westbound on SR 404 approximately four miles west of Greenwood. Police said that as Alvey was negotiating a slight curve in the roadway, he lost control of the motorcycle and began to weave in the roadway before traveling off the north side of the roadway where the bike struck a guardrail.  He was ejected upon impact and then struck a guardrail support post with his head, police said.

Alvey, who investigators said was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation the accident. Troopers said speed does not appear to be a factor.

Seashore Highway in the area of Woodenhawk Road was closed for approximately four and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
