LAUREL, Del.- Delaware State Police say a man had to be rushed to the hospital late Monday afternoon after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a pickup truck near Laurel.
Troopers said the incident occurred at approximately 5:34 p.m., as 72-year-old Gene H. Huey of Bridgeville was operating a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck eastbound on Shiloh Church Road and preparing to turn left into a private driveway. Police said 43-year-old Ivan E. Edmunds of Dover was operating a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on Shiloh Church Road when Huey began his turn into the private driveway and into the path of the motorcycle, which struck the passenger's side of the pickup.
Edmunds, who police said was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the roadway. He was removed from the scene by EMS and initially transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Christiana Hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition.
Police said Huey, who was properly restrained, was not injured in the crash.
Shiloh Church Road was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
The crash remains under investigation.
