DOVER, Del.– Wesley College junior Jared Morris and senior Devin Hardy have been named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week, the website announced late Monday night.
Morris was also named the Beyond Sports Network Defensive Player of the Week. In Morris' first game as a full-time defensive player, the defensive back from Toms River, N.J., broke a school-record with four interceptions in No. 3 Wesley's season opening, 34-14 win at East Texas Baptist. Three of his picks came in the second half, including two in the fourth quarter.
Morris' record breaking game puts his name right up there with some of the all-time greats, including former Wolver and Gagliardi Trophy winner Rocky Myers, who held the school-record with three interceptions in a 56-10 win over Salisbury on Oct. 27, 2001. Brian Warren also had three interceptions in a game for the Wolverines, a 43-6 victory over Chowan on Oct. 30, 1993.
A native of Baltimore, Hardy was also named to the National Team of the Week, as he recorded five tackles, to go with 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack. The third-ranked Wolverines return to action on Saturday, Sept. 8, when they travel across Route 13 to take on No. 6 Salisbury at 6 pm.
The Sea Gulls are also 1-0 on the season after a 40-16 road victory at Christopher Newport.
