Camden Cleans up After Tornado

Updated:

CAMDEN, Del.- Residents in the Barclay Farms community in Camden are cleaning up after a tornado swept through the 55 and up community. Several homes were destroyed and dozens suffered minor damage but many in the neighborhood are focusing the positive, that no one was hurt.

Pam Landon returned home on Labor Day from running errands to find her house had been ripped apart by storms and wind.

The house has been deemed uninhabitable and she isn't sure when she'll be able to move back in but through the whole ordeal, she says she is thankful.

"The only thing I could think of was if it had been a regular day, other than a holiday, my two young grandchildren would have been here with me and probably would have been hurt.," she said. "So I was very thankful, they weren't here and we weren't here."

Relief and gratitude was echoed by people in Barclay Farms.

Karen Cochrane's home suffered minor damage. She is just glad she wasn't there when it all happened.

"I'm grateful somebody was watching out for me because if I had been where the car was, I would have been smashed in," she said. "And had I been sitting there where I normally sit in the kitchen, the shard glass would have all hit me."

Hundreds of homes in Delaware lost power when the storms and high speed winds came through the area.
