BALTIMORE (AP) - The Archdiocese of Baltimore says it is has raised $64 million of the $100 million it is working to raise to support its mission.
The archdiocese says the fundraising campaign announced Wednesday is the first in 15 years. The archdiocese says the money will be used to educate children of all faiths and backgrounds in Catholic schools, serve the poor through its charities and support more than 150 parishes in the city and nine counties.
Church officials say $50 million will go to Catholic schools, $20 million will be returned to parishes and $10 million will go to Catholic charities. Funds raised in the campaign will also be used to care for retired priests and preserve the archdiocese's two cathedrals.
