SALISBURY, Md.- The Salisbury-Ocean City: Wicomico Regional Airport has received a $1,300,899 Federal Aviation Administration grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

U.S. Senators Ben Carding and Barbara Mikulski announced the grant on Thursday, Sept. 6. The grant is the first of a two-part, multi-year grant designed to update and replace parts to two separate taxiways.

The grant will be used to renovate existing parts of taxiway "Echo," which was originally constructed by the U.S. Navy in 1943.  Currently, sections of the runway are passable, but use has been restricted to private charters. The grant will also be used to upgrade the surface of taxiway "Bravo."

The project will also provide expanded space for the future growth of commercial cargo space at the airport.

It is estimated that the multi-year taxiway improvement project will cost $2.8 million. Wicomico County and the Maryland Aviation Administration will contribute 10 percent of the funding through passenger fees.
