WASHINGTON (AP)- Maryland crabmeat will be on the menu at a State Department event in Washington announcing a new culinary ambassador abroad program.
Department of Natural Resources seafood marketing official Steve Vilnit says he'll be at Friday's event to promote the state's True Blue program. Vilnit developed the program that certifies restaurants serving homegrown Maryland crabs and crab meat. Vilnit is known for bringing chefs out onto the Chesapeake Bay and to crab picking houses to convince them of the superior quality of Maryland crab meat. Vilnit says the True Blue program helps consumers identify and support local businesses buying from local sources.
The State Department is announcing Friday the creation of the American Chef Corps. The network of culinary leaders will promote U.S. cooking and agricultural products abroad.
