Wesley Field Hockey Flys Past Stevens

DOVER, DE – The Wesley College field hockey team defeated Stevens Tech, 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Scott D. Miller Stadium.  With the victory, the Wolverines even their record at 2-2 while the Ducks fall to 2-3.

Just over a minute into the game, Gracie Daniels gave Wesley the early lead as she blasted a loose ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Both teams fired several shots at the goal the remainder of the first half, but both teams were unable to capitalize as the Wolverines held a slim 11-10 shot advantage in the opening period.

Coming out of the break, Wesley was able to add a quick goal off the stick of Lauren MearsLindsey Martin handled the ball from the twenty-yard line to the right-side of the end line before firing a perfect cross which found Mears in front of the goal.

Elizabeth Groom had a great day in goal for the Wolverines before being pulled at 56:40.  The senior netminder made 11 saves without allowing a goal before being pulled for Sarah Daniels. Daniels made four saves in her 13 minutes and 20 seconds of action.

Stevens continued its shooting rampage and was able to score at 64:25 to cut the deficit in half, but Wesley was able to hold on with an insurance goal by Devin Price with 44 seconds left.

Wesley returns to action on Tuesday, September 11, when it hosts Haverford at 7:00 pm.
