HARRINGTON, Del.- Harrington police say a Maryland man stopped for driving on the wrong side of a divided highway has been charged with his 7th offense DUI.
Police said that at around 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 57-year-old Neil Lessner of Oakland, Md., was stopped for traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. Route 13 in the area of Gordon Street.
According to police, officers detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Lessner as he spoke. Police said field sobriety testing further confirmed the suspicion of DUI and Lessner was detained without incident. He was taken to the Harrington Police Department for further testing, which police said revealed Lessner's blood alcohol content to be more than twice the legal limit.
Lessner was charged with 7th offense DUI (a felony) and driving wrong way on a one-way street. He was ordered held in the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $5,100 cash bond.
