Naval Academy to Hold Cybersecurity Symposium

WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. Naval Academy will hold a symposium on the history and future challenges of cybersecurity.

Andrew Phillips, the academy's academic dean, announced the October conference during a meeting on Monday with the school's Board of Visitors.

Phillips says the symposium will include a panel on the alliance of the private and public sectors in developing cybersecurity.

The academy has been working to make cyberwarfare a part of the curriculum for all students. The class of 2015 already has had its first cybersecurity class. They will be taking another course next year.

The academy also is developing a Cyber Operations major. Phillips says the major will be designed to make graduates "our tip-of-the-spear cyber warriors who can conduct network attacks as well as defend against them."
