DOVER, Del.- It has been said that 73 cents of every dollar spent with a small business goes into the local economy. Downtown Delaware is trying to maximize the amount of dollars spent with small businesses in the First State by offering free rent space for three months in select areas.

"Project Pop-Up is an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs or existing entrepreneurs to start a business concept in the downtown," said Diane Laird of Downtown Delaware.

Property owners will allow businesses to move into their space rent free for three months during the holiday season, in hopes of enticing them to stay after the time is up and held build up the area.

Kennisha Deallie owns Madison's Essentials on Loockerman Street. She has been open for about five months and hopes the concept brings people to not only the new businesses but hers as well.

"We'll get more traffic downtown, I think we'll get more people coming downtown to shop," she said. "We have great shops now, we definitely need more."
