SALISBURY, Md.- Authorities say a Salisbury drug dealer will spend 30 in prison following his conviction Wednesday.
Tyrone Hunter, 46, pleaded guilty in Wicomico County Circuit Court to the top count of the state's indictment of possession with intent to distribute a narcotic drug, which is a felony.
Hunter, who was on parole at the time of the offense, was sentenced to an active period of incarceration of three decades in the Division of Corrections to be served consecutive to his parole violation. This is Hunter's fourth felony drug conviction dating back to 1990, according to Wicomico County State's Attorney Matthew Maciarello.
"With this conviction, along with the conviction of Michael Dixon who received 12 years for a drug distribution crime on Monday, we hope to send the message that Wicomico County is a community that takes a stand against drug dealers," Maciarello said in a statement. "Most of our crime and street violence can be traced back to the illegal sale and use of narcotics, so our office vigorously prosecutes individuals who are involved in the local drug trade, especially four-time, repeat offenders like Tyrone Hunter."
Maciarello commended the members of the Salisbury Police Department for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Maciarello also thanked Assistant State's Attorney Andrew Illuminati, who prosecuted this case.
