NEWARK, Del.- Delaware State Police said that three people are face charges in connection with a robbery and homicide that occurred at the Four Seasons 7-Eleven in Newark.
Troopers said that on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 48-year-old Mohammed Rafique Ullah of Newark was working at the convenience store when two men wearing masks entered the store and robbed Ullah. According to police, he was shot in the chest as the suspects fled the scene. Ullah was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police said that while investigating this incident, they learned of an attempted robbery that had occurred the day before at the I-95 Service Plaza. Two masked men entered the rear door of the plaza, threatened an employee and attempted to access a room holding a safe.
According to reports, the suspects were unsuccessful in entering the room, went to the parking lot where they got into a black Ford Taurus and fled southbound on I-95. A witness was able to provide a description of the suspects and the vehicle's Delaware registration number.
After reviewing surveillance footage, detectives said they were able to identify the I-95 suspects as the same suspects from the 7-11 case.
On Wednesday Sept.12, the DSP obtained a search warrant for the apartment of the registered owner of the Ford Taurus, located in the unit block of Winterhaven Drive, adjacent to the Four Seasons 7-11.
Police said that 25-year-old Andre D. Palmer of Fairburn, Ga., and 25-year-old Vanisha D. Carson of New Castle, Del., were found inside the apartment and taken into custody. In the apartment investigators located the clothing and a white mask worn by Palmer in the robberies.
In the early hours of Thursday, Sept. 13, troopers executed a search warrant at an apartment in the Lancaster Court complex in the unit block of Court Drive near Wilmington. Authorities said that 21-year-old Vincent Stallings of Wilmington, Del., was found inside the apartment and taken into custody.
According to police, further investigation determined that Carson was the driver of the Ford Taurus and she transported Palmer and Stallings to the robberies. Investigators said that Palmer was wearing a white mask and Stallings wore a black mask. Police said that Stallings was in possession of a handgun in the 7-Eleven robbery and fired the shot that killed Ullah.
Carson and Palmer were charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and second-degree conspiracy.
Stallings was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree robbery, two-counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and two-counts of second degree.
Police said they are continuing to investigate these incidents.
