MILFORD, Del. (AP)- The Food Bank of Delaware is planning to break ground next week on a $2.6 million expansion project at its Milford branch.

The expanded branch will help the organization meet a growing need in Kent and Sussex counties.

Plans call for the construction of an industrial-sized kitchen to prepare hot meals for children in after-school programs and more space for volunteers. The branch will house the second site of The Culinary School at the Food Bank of Delaware, which trains the unemployed and underemployed for food service industry jobs.

A groundbreaking is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at 1040 Mattind Way.

The group says it helps about one of every four state residents.
