UMES Volleyball Sweeps MEAC Weekly Awards

Posted:
NORFOLK, Va. - After winning all four matches this weekend at the ASU
Invitational, UMES swept the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference weekly awards,
announced by the league on Monday.  Victoria Williams was honored as MEAC Player
of the Week and Bridget Ebster-Schwarzenberger earned MEAC Rookie of the Week.

UMES has now won five weekly awards in the first four weeks of competition, including
three Player and two Rookie of the Week honors.  No other MEAC school has more than
one weekly volleyball honor at this point in the season.

In addition, Ebster-Schwarzenberger (St. Veiberstrabe, Austria) has been named the
MEAC's top rookie two weeks in a row.

Both players greatly assisted UMES this weekend in becoming the ASU Invite Champion
after winning matches against North Texas, Alabama State, Troy and Jackson State.  The
Hawks now sport a winning streak of 10-straight matches and have won three non-
conference tournaments this season.

Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.), getting her first-ever MEAC weekly award, earned
double digit kills in all four matches this weekend, hitting .346 to finish with 59 kills and
10 blocks.  She earned a career-high 19 kills against North Texas, hitting .412 in the
match, later earning 18 kills and six blocks in the win over Troy.  The sophomore right
side hitter ended Saturday with a .615 hitting percentage against Jackson State with 10
kills and a pair of blocks.

Ebster-Schwarzenberger concluded the ASU Invite with 41 kills, 10 aces and 34 digs.
She started the tournament with a career-high 15 kills, adding nine digs and an ace.  She
two more career-highs the next day against Troy with 14 digs and five aces, earning a
double double with 12 kills added.

Williams, Ebster-Schwarzenberger and the Hawks will fly to California to compete in the
Roadrunner Invite, starting on Thursday.
