Proposed Plan for Easton Point

Posted: Updated:

EASTON, Md.- Plans are in the works to revitalize some of the only waterfront property the town of Easton has to offer.

The Eastern Shore Land Conservancy presented a design that includes an amphitheater, outdoor classrooms, a small marina, kayak launch and park for Easton Point.

Sarah Abel, who is the community design manager for ESLC, said the Easton Point property has a lot of potential.

"It was a huge miss opportunity in the town of Easton to have an 11-acre site that has waterfront property in a town that has very little waterfront access here on the Eastern Shore. And to use it as a public works site was a huge missed opportunity," said Abel.

One of the organization's goals is to make the park environmentally-friendly. To accomplish that, they will add shorelines to help the surrounding aquatic life. Amy Yule of Easton says waterfront access is the only thing missing in Easton, and threw in some of her own ideas.

"I think it's good to have benches for people to sit down on, parks for kids to play at and for it to be green so the environment is protected," Yule said.

If accepted, construction could be loud for local neighbors but Marilyn Johnson of Easton said it will be worth it.

"It is a beautiful place anyway and for me it gives us somewhere else to go, somewhere else...a little more recreation," Johnson said.
