Berlin Man Arrested on Drug Charges After Running From Police

Updated:

BERLIN, Md.- Authorities say a Berlin man was arrested on drug-related charges after his allegedly "suspicious behavior" sparked their interest.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, members of the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team were in the area of the Berlin VFW located at 104 Showell St.

According to police, Kasheem D. Purnell, 33, of Berlin, began acting in a suspicious manner when he noticed officers and immediately walked behind a small cargo trailer parked on Showell Street.

Police said a member of the criminal enforcement team approached the trailer and found a clear plastic bag that contained 22 individually wrapped bags of cocaine, totaling 9 grams.

Investigators said Purnell ran but was captured after a brief chase. He was arrested and taken to the Worcester County Sheriff's Office.

Purnell was charged with possession of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute cocaine and released on $5,000 unsecured bond.
