Checkpoint Strikeforce Makes 10 DUI Arrests

DOVER, Del.- Police in Delaware made 10 DUI arrests last weekend during the 2012 Checkpoint Strikeforce DUI prevention campaign.

According to the state Office of Highway Safety, after last weekend's checkpoints, a total of 154 arrests have been made as a part of this campaign. Statewide, there have been over 3,500 DUI arrests this year.

In addition to DUI arrests, Delaware law enforcement agencies issued two seat belt citations, apprehended one wanted individual, made six drug arrests, issued two child restraint citations and 40 citations for other various traffic violations.

Two sobriety checkpoints are scheduled to take place this weekend:  

Friday, Sept. 21

  • Christiana (Delaware State Police)- checkpoint

Saturday, Sept. 22

  • Seaford (Seaford Police Department)- checkpoint  

Checkpoint Strikeforce is a regional sobriety checkpoint campaign aimed at arresting DUI offenders, and uses high visibility enforcement to deter those who would otherwise choose to drink and drive. The campaign, a six-month-long effort running through New Year's Eve, involves setting up weekly DUI checkpoints statewide.
