Md. Hospital Uses Cakes to Reveal Baby's Gender

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP)- A women's care center in Hagerstown has a unique way of revealing a baby's gender to expectant parents: Pink or blue cakes.

Capital Women's Care gives parents the option of taking home a cake after an ultrasound, during which the baby's gender is usually determined. All cakes are decorated the same way on the outside, but once cut, the pink or blue cake inside reveals the gender.

Carrie McMahon, a physician's assistant at the practice, started offering the cakes to patients about nine months ago.

Parents of twins can also get in on the fun. If both babies are the same gender, the entire cake will be either pink or blue. If the twins are opposite genders, the cake will be half-pink, half-blue. .
