Ronald Williamson
GREENWOOD, Del. (AP/WBOC)- A man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend in the head during a standoff with police in Greenwood has been found mentally competent to stand trial.
Sixty-seven-year-old Ronald Williamson of Laurel is charged with capital murder in the June 2011 death of 55-year-old Connie Breeding of Greenwood.
A defense psychiatrist testified that Williamson did not seem to understand some of the charges against him. But two experts hired by the prosecution said Williamson seemed able to work on a defense strategy with his attorney.
Superior Court Judge Richard Stokes ruled that Williamson was competent, and scheduled trial for Oct. 29.
