YORK, Pa.– Salisbury University senior forward Melissa Slocum was named Capital Athletic Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Slocum had one goal and three assists last week as the Sea Gulls defeated No. 7 Catholic University of America, 4-3, and conference foe St. Mary's (Md.) College, 5-1. The Salisbury, Md., native scored SU's only goal of the first half against the Cardinals to tie the game at one, 11 minutes into the contest. The senior forward would then add an assist in the second half to help close the scoring gap to 3-2 as Salisbury came back to win in a penalty shootout.
Later in the week, Slocum dished out a career-high two assists in Salisbury's first CAC game of the season against St. Mary's.
This is the first time this season that a Sea Gull has been honored as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week and it is the fourth consecutive week that a member of the SU field hockey team has been honored by the league. Sophomore Rachel Clewer was tabbed CAC Defensive Player of the Week twice (Sept. 3 and Sept. 17) along with senior Amber Holland who was named CAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 10.
The Sea Gulls continue their four-game road trip as they head to Johns Hopkins University for a 7 p.m., contest against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
