Redskins' Kyle Shanahan Takes Blame for Penalty

Posted:

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan says he acted "in the wrong way" when he was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct during the final confusing seconds of the team's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The son of head coach Mike Shanahan issued a written statement Monday, promising that such conduct "will never happen again."

Shanahan was whistled for berating an official as the Redskins were attempting to drive for a tying touchdown in Sunday's 38-31 defeat. He says he was trying to call attention to the fact that the game wasn't over - even though the Bengals coaching staff had starting walking on the field.

The officials mistakenly marked off 20 yards for the penalty instead of 15, forcing the Redskins into a third & 50 for the game's final play.
