HURLOCK, Md.- A Hurlock man is behind bars following accusations that he beat a pregnant woman and threatened to kill her unborn baby during an argument over a cellphone.

Hurlock police said that on Sunday afternoon, officers responded to a reported domestic dispute on Douglas Drive Park. Police said an investigation into the incident revealed that the 20-year-old victim had gotten into an argument over a cellphone with 19-year-old Jamonte Fletcher.

Authorities said that during the dispute, Fletcher bit the victim, kicked her in the stomach and knocked her to the ground. Fletcher then pointed a handgun at the victim and threatened to kill her unborn baby, according to police.

Police said Fletcher fled from the area and was not located until Tuesday morning, Sept. 25, when he appeared at the Parole and Probation office in Cambridge. He was subsequently arrested by Hurlock police and charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was ordered held without bond.

Police said the victim, who is also from Hurlock, refused medical treatment.
