5 Wicomico Businesses Busted for Selling Alcohol to Minors

SALISBURY, Md.- Authorities say five businesses failed a routine Wicomico County Alcohol Task Force compliance check conducted on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Named "Operation Spot Check," the operations involved the use of Maryland State Police cadets for sales to underage persons at various licensed establishments throughout the county.

John Groncki, chief liquor license inspector for the Wicomico Board of [Liquor] License Commissioners, said that of the 31 establishments that were checked, the five listed below failed:

  • Hebron Food Rite, 100 S. Main St., Hebron
  • Delmar Tiger Mart, 8600 Ocean Highway, Delmar, Md.
  • Thirsty's, 9534 Ocean Highway, Delmar, Md.
  • Top Ten 825 W. Isabella St., Salisbury
  • Shore Stop, 1020 Eastern Shore Drive, Salisbury

The following 26 locations passed, resulting in an 86 percent pass rate:

  • Adams The Place For Ribs, 219 N. Fruitland Blvd., Fruitland 
  • Ruby Tuesday's, 2300 N. Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury 
  • Cheer's Beer & Wine, 1324 S. Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury
  • The Fountains, 1800 Sweetbay Drive, Salisbury 
  • Center City Exxon, 500 S. Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury 
  • Quick Stop, 900 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury
  • Express Lane, 4912 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury
  • Cam Market, 739 E. Church St., Salisbury 
  • Food Lion, 232 Tilghman Road, Salisbury
  • Giant Food, 751 S. Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury
  • Royal Farm Store, 1401 S. Division St., Salisbury 
  • T's Market, 400 N. Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury 
  • Thirsty's South, 1053 S. Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury
  • Red Fox Market, 107 S. Fruitland Blvd., Fruitland
  • Winter Place Market, 6731 Hobbs Road, Salisbury

  • Buster's Wine & Spirits, 1210 Nanticoke Road, Salisbury
  • Boulevard Beer & Wine, 1 Bi-State Blvd., Delmar, Md.
  • Price Check, 910 West Road, Salisbury
  • Shore Stop, 27430 Ocean Gateway, Hebron
  • Delmar Food Service, 9521 Ocean Highway, Delmar, Md.
  • Westside Cash Market, 811 West Road, Salisbury

Groncki said the licensees of the establishments that failed the compliance checks will be required to appear before the Board of [Liquor] License Commissioners for a show cause hearing whereupon they could face fines or suspensions of their liquor licenses, or both. The clerks who sold the alcohol to the cadet will be charged criminally by the officers of the Task Force, according to Groncki.

The task force is comprised of the Board of [Liquor] License Commissioners, Maryland State Police, the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, the Salisbury and Fruitland police departments, as well as the Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office.
