DOVER, Del.- Dover police have arrested a registered sex offender accused of raping a teenage girl.
Dover police arrested 31-year-old Richard A. Abbott Jr. on Tuesday. He was charged with fourth-degree rape, sexual exploitation of a child, sex offender- unlawful sexual contact against a child, providing alcohol to an underage person and three counts of second-degree reckless endangering.
Police said Abbott's arrest stemmed from an investigation that revealed he molested the 15-year-old victim after providing her with alcohol.
According to the Delaware Sex Offender Registry, Abbott is a Tier II (moderate-risk) sex offender who was convicted in May 2008 of third-degree rape of a victim between the ages of 12 and 15.
After being taken into custody on the aforementioned latest charges, Abbott was ordered held in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $78,300 secured bond.
