DOVER, Del.- Police in Delaware made 19 arrests last weekend during the 13th week of the 2012 Checkpoint Strikeforce DUI prevention campaign.
The Office of Highway Safety reports that 173 DUI arrests have been made so far in this year's campaign, and 3,600 DUI arrests have been made in the state of Delaware this year.
In addition to DUI arrests, officers apprehended three wanted individuals and issued 30 citations for various traffic violations.
As Dover prepares for NASCAR at the Monster Mile this weekend, Delaware law enforcement agencies have scheduled two checkpoints:
Friday, Sept. 28:
- Harrington (multi-jurisdictional effort)- checkpoint
- Wilmington (New Castle County DUI Task Force)- checkpoint
Checkpoint Strikeforce is a regional sobriety checkpoint campaign aimed at arresting DUI offenders, and uses high visibility enforcement to deter those who would otherwise choose to drink and drive. The campaign, a six-month-long effort running through New Year's Eve, involves setting up weekly DUI checkpoints statewide.
