LAUREL, Del. - A feline feud has taken over one Laurel street since the beginning of September.

Joanne Masso told WBOC four of her 10 cats have gone missing recently, and she believes her next door neighbors are to blame.

"Now they're indoor. [The cats] were indoor outdoor with no issues," Masso said of her remaining cats.

Masso's neighbors, the Ryans, set up two animal traps on their front porch a few weeks ago. Laura Ryan said cats were defecating on her front step, and that it had become a health issue. Ryan said since they put out the traps, they've captured seven or eight cats.

"We relocate them to a place where there's food, water and shelter," Ryan said. She would not tell WBOC where they relocate the cats.

A representative from the Delaware SPCA said cats are considered free-roaming animals, and that it is legal to trap a cat on your own property.

Masso said she was arrested earlier this month for trespassing, when she freed one of her cats from a trap on Ryan's front porch.

Cris Rushing told WBOC her cat is missing, and that something needs to change.

"He is not a birder or mouser, he got fed everyday inside, he is fixed, has his shots, and was very happy to have been here for eight years," Rushing said in an email to WBOC.

Rushing said she has contacted the Delaware Attorney General's office about this cat trapping in Laurel.
