Former Georgetown Mayor Seeks State Senate Seat

GEORGETOWN, Del. (WBOC/AP)- A former Georgetown mayor is launching a write-in campaign for the 19th Delaware Senate district seat.

Thirty-eight-year-old Brian Pettyjohn declared himself a candidate on Monday. Pettyjohn, a Republican, had been mayor of Georgetown from 2010 to May 2012, and had served as a councilman for two years before that.

Pettyjohn attended Sussex Central High School and the University of Delaware. He serves on the board of directors of the Chad Spicer Foundation, and on the board of directors of Children and Families First. 

The major-party candidates in the race are Republican Eric Bodenweiser and Democrat Jane Hovington.

The 19th District covers Georgetown, Bridgeville and Lock Neck.
