Peanut Butter Recall Affects Delmarva

Posted:

DOVER, Del.- A New Mexico-based company called Sunland is voluntarily recalling peanut and other nut butter products because of a possible salmonella contamination. More than 25 people from 18 states, including Maryland and Virginia, have fallen ill with Salmonella.

The peanut butter in question has made its way onto store shelves and is making parents cautious.

"My child could get sick and so many other people could get sick as well," said Amy Huals.

Many stores like Target and Giant are pulling the recalled brand from their shelves, but on Oct. 2, WBOC was able to buy two jars of Open Nature peanut butter that should should have been recalled at the Safeway in Dover.

Store managers declined to speak on camera but a company spokesperson said the peanut butter should have been removed and the company will follow up with its Dover store. The spokesman said Safeway "will pull the peanut butter immediately."

"You have to be careful, so I would think they'd be a little more careful with all of the recalls that are going out. So it is kind of nerve-wracking," said shopper Mollie Moore.
