Anti-Fraud Seminar to be Held in Rehoboth Beach

Posted:

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.– Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden is inviting Sussex County seniors to attend a fraud and identity theft prevention seminar his office will hold this Friday, Oct. 5. The free seminar, conducted by the Attorney General's Fraud and Consumer Protection Division, will take place from 1-3 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, located at 29276 Bay Vista Road in Rehoboth Beach.

"Our senior population is growing and thriving, but unfortunately so are scams aimed at older Delawareans. With the right information, though, we can protect ourselves and our loved ones," Biden said.  "I hope seniors will take advantage of my office's seminar on Friday to learn simple, powerful tips to avoid becoming a victim, as well as resources available to those who have been targeted."

One in five senior citizens has been the victim of a scam, according to Crimebusters.org, and financial crimes against seniors cost older Americans $2.6 billion a year. Many scams are aimed specifically at seniors – fraudulent telemarketers, for example, direct 50 to 80 percent of their calls to older citizens.

For more information about this seminar or to schedule a similar program for your organization, call the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Hotline at (800) 220-5424.
