DELMAR, Md. (AP)- A town that straddles the Delaware-Maryland border has awarded a construction contract to convert a former town hall building into a public safety facility.
The Delmar Joint Council approved a $965,550 proposal by locally based Terra Development Inc. this week.
The move follows an agreement by the Council in Delmar, Del., to borrow $400,000 for its share of the renovation costs. Delmar, Md., commissioners have meanwhile voted to borrow up to $600,000 for renovations.
Delmar police have been at a site on Pennsylvania Avenue for more than 30 years. The building lacks a holding cell, among other public safety tools, as well as sufficient garage space for patrol vehicles.
