PRMC Breaks Ground for New Facility in Millsboro

Updated:

MILLSBORO, Del.- Tuesday marked the groundbreaking ceremony for a new health care facility in Millsboro.  The Sussex County center will be part of Peninsula Regional Medical Center, headquartered in Salisbury, Md.

The new 48,000-square-foot medical center is located right off of Route 113 and is expected to bring 100 new jobs to the community. As the population grows, Delmarva health care providers all want their piece of the pie around central Sussex County.

Elmer Stump, who lives in Millsboro, said the new health care facility will help.

"I go to Seaford, Kings Row, Christiana, all to get medical treatments," he said.

But more options are coming to Sussex County, and some are already there. Bayhealth has testing sites and outpatient locations in Sussex as well. Its hospitals are in Milford and Dover.

Beebe Medical Center also said it is currently arranging to build a two-story office building in Georgetown to meet the county's growth. PRMC has the same idea.

"They need more primary care here in the southern Sussex area, and that was demonstrated through recent research, and the census data, an underserved area, and we recognized since 1963 our license identifies this area as our responsibility for primary care and tertiary care," said Dr. Peggy Naleppa, president and CEO of PRMC.

Millsboro's population should grow by 8 percent over the next five years according to census numbers. Right now more than 100,000 people who live within a 20-minute drive from where PRMC will open.
