Del. Environmentalists Wary of Regulatory Changes

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP)- The Delaware Chapter of the Sierra Club is preparing to weigh in on possible revisions to the state's environmental regulations.

Gov. Jack Markell signed an executive order earlier this year calling on executive branch agencies to review regulations that are at least three years old for possible revisions or elimination. The idea is to reduce impediments to economic growth and make government more user-friendly.

But the Sierra Club says the order appears to encourage political influence into the regulatory process for protecting the environment and is concerned that it will be used to erode environmental protection.

The club scheduled a planning session Wednesday evening in Wilmington in advance of the public comment period starting in December for environmental regulations.
