Woman and 60 Cats Forced to Move From Property

Posted: Updated:

GREENSBORO, Md.- Over the last eight years, Smiley Wieber has spent more than $30,000 converting a former horse barn into a home for herself and unwanted cats in Caroline County. Now Wieber is being forced to move because the owners of the property have to sell it.

"I don't want that to occur, I want to live with them, I need them in my life and God put it in my heart to save them and it means so much. I don't want to move without them," Wieber said.

A labor of love, the cat sanctuary took years to build, but Smiley said she has no choice but to leave everything behind.

"It took three years to complete it, but to keep up the renovation and the labor and the material, just this wire I put on here last year cost $1,000 but it can't be taken," Wieber said. "Nnone of this can be taken. I have to rebuild."

Smiley is now searching for a place to live, not only for her but her cats too, all 60 of them. She said living without them is not an option.

"These animals are abused, abandoned and have cancer," Wieber said.

"It takes three hours in the morning all day long and two hours when I get off work at night and they have the food the shelter and this place was built especially for them and it's like a 24-hour adventure world to them."

So far Wieber has had no luck as of yet finding a new place to call home, but remains hopeful she and her cats will land with their feet on the ground.
