SALISBURY, MD – After a scoreless first half, the No. 1 Salisbury University field hockey team and No. 7 University of Mary Washington erupted to score five goals in the final 35 minutes of a Capital Athletic Conference match up. Salisbury scored two goals to take the lead with 15 minutes remaining in the game but the Eagles went to score three consecutive goals to win 3-2.

Salisbury (11-1, 2-1 CAC) took seven shots in the first 35 minutes but could not capitalize on its chances while the SU defense held the Eagles to no shots or penalty corners.

In the second half, the maroon and gold scored first off a penalty corner as junior midfielder Emily Voshell tipped senior back Amber Holland's drive from the top of the circle into the cage for the 1-0 advantage. Ten minutes later, SU would go up by two as Voshell successfully converted a penalty stroke.

Mary Washington (14-1, 3-0 CAC) scored one minute later off a penalty corner to cut the lead in half. Lisa Charney sent a rocket from the top of the circle into the left corner to close the gap to 2-1. The Eagles would score once more in a matter of a minute as Jenna Steele tipped a pass from Caitlin Baker to even the game at two apiece.

The penalty stroke by Voshell and the Eagles' two goals were scored in a matter of two minutes.

With 13 minutes remaining in the contest, both teams continued to battle back and forth. Mary Washington would score the game-winning goal with under two minutes to play off the stick of Charney.

Salisbury exited the half with 10 shots and three corners as Mary Washington earned six corners and took nine shots.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Clewer (11-1) picked up her first loss in the goal, while Claire Gianelle made six saves in the contest for Mary Washington.

The Sea Gulls will look to rebound on Wednesday, Oct. 13, as they take on CAC foe Wesley College. Salisbury will host the Wolverines at Sea Gull Stadium with the first whistle at 6 p.m.
