New App Helps Md. Students Reach School Police

Posted:

MILLERSVILLE, Md. (AP) - Students in Anne Arundel County have a new way of getting in touch with the police officers who patrol their schools - with their smartphones.

The new app was developed by Cpl. William Davis, the school resource officer at Old Mill High School in Millersville. He says that the app allows students to reach out to police "in a medium they're familiar with."

Lt. Doyle Batten, commander of the school resource officer unit, says Davis suggested the app as police were discussing ways to better communicate with students in the wake of a shooting in Baltimore County on the first day of school.

Students have many ways of reaching school resource officers, but the app allows them more privacy.
