DOVER, Del.- Authorities say a Delaware State University homecoming party held at a Dover church hall over the weekend ended with a large fight and gunfire.

According to Dover police, at around 1 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, officers responded to the report of a large fight in progress at St. Andrews Lutheran Church on North DuPont Highway.

Police said that when officers arrived at the church, they encountered more than 200 people leaving the church's St. Michaels Hall, which had been rented out by DSU students for a homecoming party.

Officers said that as they began to disperse the crowd, several shots were fired in the church parking lot. The crowd began running in different directions and additional officers had to be called in to assist in clearing out the parking lot. Officers eventually managed to get everyone to leave. There was apparently no one injured by the gunshots, according to police.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at (302) 736-7111.Callers may remain anonymous. Tips can also be submitted to law enforcement through tip lines maintained by Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or online at www.tipsubmit.com.
