NORFOLK, Va. - For the third time this season, Saitaua Iosia has been honored as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league on Monday. Iosia (Long Beach, Calif.) has earned six MEAC Player of the Week honors, including three this year and a trio last season. This is her first weekly award since being named the Player of the Week recipient the first two weeks of the season. UMES has earned five MEAC Volleyball Player of the Week awards in 2012, three more than any other school, including the previous one, given to Ndidi Ibe (North Richland Hills, Texas) last week. The sophomore outside hitter led UMES to a pair of victories at the Hytche this weekend, with wins over Hampton and Norfolk State helping the Hawks take sole possession of first place in the MEAC Northern Division. She started the week with 18 kills, six aces, five digs and a pair of blocks over Hampton, concluding with a double double against Norfolk State with 17 kills and 10 digs, adding four aces and three assists. She combined for 35 kills, 10 aces and 15 digs in the two wins. Iosia and the Hawks will play another pair of home matches this weekend, starting with Delaware State at 6 p.m. at the Hytche to kick off Hawk Hysteria.
