DOVER, Del.- Baby boomers can add yet another test they need to take the next time they go to the doctor. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now recommending everyone born between 1945 and 1965 get tested for hepatitis C.
Approximately 75 percent of adults with hepatitis C were born during the aforementioned period. The CDC said many people with the virus not even know they have it.
Clarence Brown has heard about the issues with hepatitis C, such as liver cancer or cirrhosis but said he has not been tested for it.
"I haven't experienced anything different in my life, but if I did experience anything, symptoms, then I certainly would be concerned about being examined," Brown said.
But according to the Delaware Department of Health and Human Services, hepatitis C does not usually result in symptoms until something worse develops.
The one-time blood test has Brown rethinking his testing options.
"Anything that's going to be a danger to me, if it's going to help me, I'm more than glad to cooperate," Brown said.
New treatments available for hepatitis C can cure up to 75 percent of infections.
