GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) - The first dogs trained in a Delaware prison have finished their obedience training and are being offered for adoption in Georgetown.
Delaware SPCA's new Paws for a Cause program offers selected volunteer inmates at the Sussex Correctional Institution the chance to train the dogs. A certified dog trainer gives the inmates weekly instruction and assignments.
The obedience training helps increase the dogs' adoptability.
Now Vinnie and Sire are being put up for adoption at the nonprofit group's Georgetown shelter. Two new dogs are now being trained at the prison.
