GEORGETOWN, Del.- Republican candidate Eric Bodenweiser officially withdrew from the 19th District Senate race on Wednesday, according to the Sussex County Department of Elections.

Bodenweiser appeared in person to withdraw, officials said. The 19th District covers the Georgetown, Bridgeville and Long Neck area.

Absentee voters in the 19th District will now be mailed new ballots.

Bodenweiser suspended his campaign last week amidst rumors that he is the subject of a police investigation that alleges criminal conduct nearly 20 years ago. Police will not confirm or deny an investigation.

The Sussex County Republican Committee on Tuesday endorsed write-in candidate Brian Pettyjohn's bid for the 19th District Senate seat.

Pettyjohn, a Republican who is also a former mayor of Georgetown, announced his decision to run earlier this month.
