Checkpoint Strikeforce Makes 10 DUI Arrests in Del.

DOVER, Del.- Police in Delaware made 10 DUI arrests last weekend as part of the 2012 Checkpoint Strikeforce DUI prevention campaign.

According to the state Office of Highway Safety, after last weekend's checkpoints, a total of 198 arrests have been made as a part of this campaign. Statewide, there have been more than 3,800 DUI arrests this year.

In addition to the DUI arrests, Delaware law enforcement agencies issued two citations for underage drinking, apprehended three wanted individuals, made four drug arrests, recovered one stolen vehicle, seized one weapon, issued one cellphone citation, issued 18 seat belt citations, issued one child restraint citation, and issued 38 citations for various other traffic violations. 

Three sobriety checkpoints are scheduled to take place this weekend:  

Friday, Oct. 19

  • Wilmington (New Castle County DUI Task Force)- checkpoint
  • Seaford (multi-jurisdictional effort)- checkpoint

Saturday, Oct. 22

  • Woodside (Delaware State Police)- checkpoint  

Checkpoint Strikeforce is a regional sobriety checkpoint campaign aimed at arresting DUI offenders, and uses high visibility enforcement to deter those who would otherwise choose to drink and drive. The campaign, a six-month-long effort running through New Year's Eve, involves setting up weekly DUI checkpoints statewide.
