Memorial Hospital of Easton Could be on the Move

EASTON, Md.- The potential new site for a regional hospital on Maryland's Mid-Shore could be off Route 50 in Talbot County.

Some people say relocating the hospital makes a lot of sense.

"It would be great," said Ronnie White of St. Michaels. "Simply one reason is the congestion of the traffic. It seems to be congested sometimes getting down there and finding a place to park, if the had more space more room I think it would be a great idea."

County officials said that they have been told that if the move is made, the new hospital would provide more services to patients.  Many people we spoke with like the sound of that.

"If they are going to move it they should add things to it that they don't already have, it will make it a better place and more people will be able to be patients there," said Kenan Alsup.

Memorial Hospital treats patients from several Mid-Shore counties. Some people believe a bigger facility would help provide better health care. But is the new location- behind the Talbot County Community Center- the best choice?

WBOC spoke with people in neighboring Caroline County who say they would like to see a new hospital built closer to them.

"I'd prefer it to be closer," said Megan Tuth of Greensboro.

"I would like it closer rather than further away because my mom is in the hospital now, and emergencies it would be nicer if it was closer or if they had something in this area," said Sandi Neal of Denton.

Despite any location concerns, there's still a long road ahead before patients see a new hospital on the Mid-Shore.
