DOVER, Del. (WBOC/AP)- Delaware's Office of Highway Safety is making a coordinated effort to combat aggressive driving across the state.

Beginning Tuesday and continuing through Nov. 3, law enforcement agencies will be specifically looking for aggressive drivers. Authorities say that almost 40 percent of the fatal crashes in Delaware this year have been attributed to aggressive driving behaviors.

Motorists can be charged with aggressive driving when an officer sees the person committing three or more traffic violations in a single incident. Those might include speeding, tailgating or failing to stop for a red light. Drivers convicted of aggressive driving will face fines between $100 and $300 and have to complete an eight-hour behavior modification course. They will also get six points on their license.

In addition to Delaware State Police, law enforcement agencies participating in the anti-aggressive-driving initiative include Georgetown, Milford, Newark, New Castle County, Seaford and Wilmington.
