RIDGELY, Md.- The Caroline County Humane Society is in great need of finding its animals new homes.
With close to 200 hundred animals squeezed in kennels, crates and even hallways, the time is right for an "adopt-a-thon."
"We scheduled this adopt-a-thon because we are way passed capacity here at the shelter," said Humane Society President Bonnie Johnson.
Cats are free and dogs are half price. Both will be spayed, neutered and updated on shots.
"We have over 141 cats right now and 63 dogs and we need to get some of these animals out of here. I can't stand seeing them live in these cages," said Joanne Shipley of the Humane Society's Board of Directors.
After Maryland's pit bull ruling was recently handed down, which makes landlords responsible for pit bull incidents, people at the Caroline Humane Society said they have seen an increase in that breed of dog being brought there.
"Because of the court decision, here recently we have more pit bulls and pit bull mixes than we have ever had because people have had to bring them in because their landlords have forced them to turn in these dogs," Johnson said.
"We get overloaded and pit bulls have a bad reputation so we always have a lot of them," Shipley said.
The Caroline County Humane Society hopes to have 50-60 animals adopted this weekend.
