BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland transportation officials are reminding motorists of wind restrictions on state bridges as Hurricane Sandy approaches the coast.
The Maryland Transportation Authority says bridge closures will occur when sustained winds or wind gusts exceed 55 miles an hour. And anyone planning to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to ride out the storm is encouraged to leave the Eastern Shore before the storm hits.
State transportation officials are also reminding motorists that house trailers, empty box trailers and other vehicles may be prohibited from crossing bridges when winds speeds exceed 40 mph, even if the bridge is not closed to traffic.
