SALISBURY, Md.- Salisbury Mayor James Ireton Jr. on Friday announced the city's preparations for Hurricane Sandy.
According to Ireton, Wicomico County Emergency Operations is in constant contact with Salisbury Public Works and will alert the city if they activate shelters or a full emergency operations center.
The mayor said the following action has been, or will be taken:
- Street sweepers cleaning streets
- Approximately 90 storm drains cleared Friday
- 10 tons of sand delivered to the City Service Center
- 20 sandbags per home if needed
- Equipment is fueled
- Salisbury Marina will be a Safe Haven for boaters to anyone in the area who needs to bring their boat to higher ground (free docking)
- Salisbury Fire Department has equipment fueled, chainsaws prepped for fallen limbs
- All three city fire stations will be staffed throughout the weather event
- Salisbury Police Department staff is ready to drive citizens to shelters
- 24-hour staffing at the zoo
- WWTP 24 hour staffing starting Saturday
- WTP ready with portable generators by sewer pump stations and wells
- Monitoring water levels at city dams
- Structural engineer on call
