12-Year Sentence for Sexual Offenses in Delaware

Ronald Tate Ronald Tate

GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP/WBOC) - A former security supervisor at a Delaware poultry plant has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for coercing female workers into having sex with him.

Ronald F. Tate, a former state trooper who became a security supervisor at a Mountaire Farms plant in Millsboro, was arrested in July of last year on charges that he committed sex offenses against four female workers. He later pleaded no contest to charges including fourth-degree rape and sexual extortion.

Tate's lawyer argued that the sexual contact was consensual. But Superior Court Judge E. Scott Bradley in Georgetown rejected that argument, calling Tate's behavior "egregious."

Tate, of Lincoln, was silent as the sentence was imposed.
