








DOVER, DE – Madison Leone notched a hat trick to lead the Wesley College field hockey team to a 6-0 victory over Frostburg State in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday morning at Scott D. Miller Stadium. The Wolverines (11-8) will travel to take on No. 2 Salisbury in the CAC Semifinals on October 31.
Wesley outshot Frostburg, 33-10 in the matchup and was able to get on the board at 3:40 when Rachel Joyner scored from the wing on a pass from Jessica Franklin. Thanks to some great play by Frostburg goalkeeper Maggie Edwards, the Bobcats were able to stay in the match, but Leone scored her first goal of the game with 2:52 left in the half. Feeding Leone was Tristin Burris, who was credited with two assists on the day.
The Wolverines went into the half with a two-goal lead, but Leone quickly helped Wesley double its advantage with a pair of goals in the opening ten minutes of the second half. Adding additional insurance goals later in the period were Renee Schneider and Danielle Tearl as every Wolverine recorded minutes.
Elizabeth Groom received the win in goal for the Wolverines, making one save in just less than 53 minutes of action. Kayla Fromal relieved her in the cage and made three saves in the final 17-plus minutes. Lindsey Martin was credited with a pair of defensive saves for Wesley.
Edwards stopped 14 shots for the Bobcats while Lauren Smolla made a pair of defensive saves.
