Police Seize 105 Bags of Heroin in Worcester County Drug Bust

BERLIN, Md.- Police say two people are behind bars following the seizure of 105 bags of heroin in Worcester County.

The Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team and Ocean City police said they identified 33-year-old David Sturgill of Berlin as a source of heroin.

Authorities said surveillance of Sturgill revealed that he was traveling to Baltimore on Thursday, Oct. 25, with 24-year-old Lauren Ann Johnson of Ocean City. Police said that on Friday, Oct. 26, they obtained a search and seizure warrant for Sturgill, his vehicle and home.

Police stopped Sturgill's vehicle later that same Friday as he entered Worcester County, near the intersection of Libertytown Road and Ninepin Branch Road in Berlin. According to investigators, Sturgill and Johnson were in the vehicle and taken into custody.

Police said that during the execution of the warrant, they seized 105 bags of individually-wrapped heroin, a digital scale, various drug paraphernalia and a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Later that same day, police raided Sturgill's home where they say they located various drug paraphernalia.  

Sturgill was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia: hypodermic syringe, possession of controlled paraphernalia: hypodermic syringe. He is being held in the Worcester County Jail on $10,000 bond.

Johnson was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia: hypodermic syringe, possession of controlled paraphernalia: hypodermic syringe. She is being held in the Worcester County Jail on $15,000 bond.
